How To Choose The Best Water Dispenser For Home Or Office

Buying a water dispenser may sound simple until you have to stare at a dozen options online and are confused about where to start. Bottom-load or top-load? Hot and cold or just hot? Countertop or freestanding.
Here’s a detailed guide that breaks down everything that you need to know about water dispensers before making the final choice.

1. Start with the place

The first thing you need to figure out is the location that you are considering for the water dispenser.

For a home setting:

For home and small cozy places, you may want something that would fit neatly in a kitchen corner without ruining the entire look of the space. For apartments and homes, countertop models work well, and if you have the floor space, opting for freestanding dispensers would be the best option.

For an office setting:

For a workplace setting, you need to think about the number of people who would be using it daily. For a small team of 7 to 10 people, the needs are different than a huge office space with more than 50 employees. High-traffic workplaces need larger reservoirs and faster cycles of heating and cooling in the dispensers.

2. Top-Load or Bottom-Load?

One of the most difficult choices that you have to make is deciding between a top-load and a bottom-load dispenser.

Top-load dispensers:

Top-load dispensers are the classic ones that require you to flip the bottle upside down and slot it into the top of the dispenser. They are the ones widely available, easy to replace, and generally cost-friendly. The only downside is the manual work that you have to do to lift the 19-litre above your head.

Bottom-load dispensers:

Unlike the classic ones, Bottom-load dispensers let you slide the bottle into the portion at the base. They look way cleaner as well, and there's no need for the awkward manoeuvring.
The only trade-off is the higher price, but the functionality completely justifies the cost.

3. Hot, Cold, or Both?

Modern water dispensers offer three temperature settings: hot, cold, or room temperature. If you are a frequent tea or coffee drinker, hot water dispensers are the best choice for instant use.
If you are buying for an office setting, a hot and cold unit is always the better call. It covers everyone's preferences without needing additional appliances.

4. Energy Efficiency

For water dispensers, energy consumption matters a lot when it comes to water quality. Models with an energy-saving mode that reduces power usage are the best to look for. Some water dispensers even come with night-mode settings that can have a noticeable difference in your electricity bill over time.

5. Filtration System

When it comes to water quality, not all water dispensers are equal. Some models come with built-in filtration, UV purification, multi-stage systems, and carbon filters. If you are living in an area where the water quality is a concern, considering models with such features is worth prioritising.

6. Design and Aesthetics

Aesthetics and design matter for every space. A clunky or chunky dispenser may clash with the look of your space. Look for brands that offer modern, sleek, and minimal designs in neutral colours that blend with the space better.

  • A quick checklist before you buy:
  • How many people will use it daily?
  • Do you need hot water, cold water, or both?
  • Is lifting a water bottle an issue?
  • How much space do you have?
  • Do you want a built-in filtration system?
  • Your budget?

Run through the checklist, and you will have a much clearer idea of exactly what you need. The right dispenser shouldn’t be an expensive one, but should be the one that fits your life.
